We have now completed our second week of living in Mexico! This week’s adventures included:

  • More shopping for solar panels, where one representative insisted on coming to the house but showed up in a Jetta. He then realized he wasn’t going to make it up the bumpy dirt road, so we picked him up in the Xterra.
  • Getting Lurko… a cell phone! He uses it and everything. Even taught me some stuff, like gestures.
  • Taking the dogs for their first beach outing while also looking for humpback whales (we haven’t found any yet, but they just showed up this week).

  • Starting a keto diet, then having Thanksgiving dinner with Mom and Dad while staying faithful to said keto diet. But Mom was very nice…we had chicken, veggies, and gravy, and Mom and Dad kept the mashed potatoes and stuffing for themselves.
  • Regarding keto: after one week, I have lost 3 kilos and Lurko has lost 5 kilos. (Yes, we are learning kilos and kilometers and Celsius and military time, like the rest of the civilized world.) It has not been too terribly difficult so far…we like the high fat, high protein foods. We just need to keep an eye on our cholesterol!
  • Beginning to burn a giant brush pile in Mom and Dad’s yard. It’s going to take a few tries….it’s a lot of brush accumulated over a few months.
  • Chasing a Huntsman spider (Heteropoda venatoria) out of the bedroom, so we could sleep.
  • Meeting some of our horse neighbors.

We’re still staying in my sister’s house, but we hope to have power and be able to move into our house by Christmas. We’ll see! Mexico does not always stick to a timeline. 🙂
