Hello! I am Julie Bloem, lover of Lurko, mother of two goofy dogs, daughter of 80-year-old parents, writer of blogs about living in Mexico, hiker of Monkey Mountain, walker of beaches, and learner of off-grid living.

About Lurko

This slowly failing life support system for a magnificent beard has been known to volunteer at Texas burn events for over twenty years. It lately finds itself in Mexico learning the ins and outs of how to live off-grid, in the hopes of learning enough to keep said beard living in the manner in which it is accustomed. 

The beard has spent all of its life in Texas, until the recent move to Mexico. The life support has some knowledge in building and maintaining buildings, computer games, tabletop gaming, oral storytelling, writing in the third person, politics, mixology and cooking. 

About Julie and Lurko

For the first 20 years, we were first acquaintances, then volunteers, then friends. We started dating in 2018. Two summers ago we decided to move in together…in Mexico. By January 2024 that dream became a reality and we have been trying to make it work ever since. Oh, and we are doing this 100% off-grid so we are having to figure out power, water, sewer, heating/ cooling, waste management, and much more.
